At In The Box, we believe in doing more than just packaging - we believe in packaging kindness, purpose, and responsibility into everything we do. This Mandela Day, our entire team - from shop floor staff to senior management - stepped outside the warehouse and into our neighbourhood for a meaningful cause.
In celebration of Mandela Day 2025, we took to Berkley Road in Maitland for a community clean-up, collecting bags and bags of litter to help beautify the area we call home. With gloves on and refuse bags in hand, the team worked together with smiles, laughter, and a shared commitment to honour Madiba’s legacy of service and community upliftment.
Whether sweeping, picking up plastic, or hauling full bags to collection points, every single team member played their part. It was a hot morning, but the energy was high and the purpose was clear - we wanted to make a real impact in our local area.
“Mandela Day reminds us that each person has the power to make a difference,” says Jessica, our Head of Marketing. “This clean-up was our way of giving back to the community that supports us every day.”
Why Mandela Day Matters to Us
As a South African business, Mandela Day isn’t just a calendar event. It’s a yearly opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the values of Ubuntu, sustainability, and collective responsibility - all principles that guide both our business and our team culture.
Cleaning Berkley Road was just one small act, but it’s part of a bigger picture: a cleaner, more connected community - and a commitment to doing business with heart.

Mandela Day is about more than 67 minutes. It’s about building a better South Africa, one small act at a time. We encourage other local businesses and individuals to get involved - every bag of rubbish counts!
